Cristiano Ronaldo's Potential Retirement Timeline

Cristiano Ronaldo's Potential Retirement Timeline

Ronaldo started playing for Portugal twenty years ago and still plays a big part in the team.

Recently, during an interview with manager Roberto Martinez, there seemed to be a hint about when Ronaldo might stop playing. He's been part of Portugal's team for twenty years and, at 38 years old, some fans and experts wonder if he'll soon stop playing internationally.

Martinez mentioned something intriguing during a chat with Arsenal veteran Freddie Ljungberg. He hinted that Ronaldo might retire after reaching 250 games for Portugal, which would be unique.

"He was close to 200 caps, something no one else had done before. Our conversation was private, but I'll share one thing he told me. I asked if reaching 200 caps mattered to him, and he said: '250 does,'" Martinez revealed.

Even though Ronaldo became the first male player to reach 200 caps for his nation earlier this year, it seems he's not done yet. The goal might be to play in the 2026 World Cup for Portugal.

Right now, Ronaldo has played 205 games for Portugal. To reach the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, he'd need to keep playing.
